It has been quite a while since my last post. I have been posting on my Toadwerks blog and Soul Traveler when I get a chance before life gets in the way.
I have been very busy in the knitting department lately with my focus being on knitting for a cause. I love this type of knitting for the obvious reasons of reaching out to others. This type of knitting involves very simple patterns Soul Travelerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11383146884931121418noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7162014242616130600.post-64584145100720563582016-11-11T15:11:00.000-08:002016-11-11T15:12:52.558-08:00Sock It To Me With A Martini!
This past summer I FINALLY found a sock pattern I could do. It's a simple tube sock pattern that a friend of mine sent me. Now I am addicted! The pattern I am using is called "Tube Socks" and here is the link in case you would like to go to Ravelry and take a peek at this fun and easy pattern:

I have a friend who's birthday is on Halloween and he is a big fan of the the holiday. I decided to make him a Halloween theme throw for his birthday this year. It was a lot of fun to design and sew. I was determined to get it done in time for our Halloween Cocktail party so I could give it to him then so he could enjoy it a bit longer than for just one day. It all started this summer with the Leafy Washcloth pattern by Megan Goodacre. It was love at first site with this easy fun pattern.Plus, I love knitting wash cloths. They make great gifts you can give as a set, or as an add on to other gifts. I love including one with my homemade bath products. Where have I been? Besides sewing up a storm, I have been knitting a lot of squares of late, a bit too boring to post pictures of until you put them together. My two friends and I have been making afghans for the volunteer organization we belong to. We all used to go to the weekly meetings and knit and chat with fellow volunteers, but we found that it was getting harder to attend the meetingsSoul Travelerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11383146884931121418noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7162014242616130600.post-90549677268845031612015-07-02T12:23:00.000-07:002015-07-02T12:23:37.377-07:00Martinis and Tarot
This last weekend I did a vendor gig with my Etsy craft business, Toadwerks. Toadwerks specializes in making tarot cloth, knitted tarot bags and handkerchiefs. It is the tarot bags that have in the past month, had me longing for a Martini, or four, on a daily basis. Sadly, I could not afford the luxury of chilling out, when I needed to rev up my one woman production line. On this TBT I am going back just two weeks ago when I was on a trip to Portland Oregon. I had the good fortune to be there just a few days before the Rose Festival which means that the rose gardens were in full bloom. It occurred to me, as I was sitting and knitting under a beautiful pink rose tree, that I had just finished a fun summer shawl that could well have been inspired by the colors I wasSoul Travelerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11383146884931121418noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7162014242616130600.post-40289031621617495192015-03-31T15:46:00.000-07:002015-03-31T15:46:44.238-07:00Rose City Yarn Crawling with a Martini in Hand
My love affair with Portland Oregon continues and the feeling is mutual I know, because The Rose City greeted me with warm sunny days that lasted (just 2 rain days) for over two weeks.
I finally got to attend the Rose City Yarn Crawl this year! I can't even begin to tell you how much fun I had. Suffice it to say, that I came home with enough yarn to knit with for the rest of my life! This past week here in Denver we had the "Yarn Along the Rockies" yarn crawl. This year's crawl included 24 stores ranging from as far north as Lafayette, to as far south as Colorado Springs. I had initially decided to hit just two or three stores and ended up visiting a baker's dozen. Along the way, I visited some old favorites and made some new discoveries as well. The Summer is passing too quickly, especially in terms of knitting projects. I have been seriously considering entering my stash of unfinished projects into the Guinness Book of World records for consideration. I really feel I have a shot to win. The other week I spent half the day in my craft room, just organizing the yarn stash. Why? Well, because I have been knitting myself crazy of course! I am always knitting either my personal knitting projects, for my Etsy store or my charity knitting. To top it all off I recently purchased an embroidery machine, so the adness has escalated.
Shortly after my last post on here, I began the 2014 Rose City Yarn Crawl KAL. Fall has ushered in a flurry of knitting for me. It goes without saying that I could use a martini! The biggest project that I finally completed after 10 months {which included a lot of procrastination) was my first ever sweater. It is an Icelandic sweater made with Lopi wool. It was a project that was part of a knit along done at Fancy Tiger Crafts. Summer means that it's time to knit outdoors! I love to spread my beach blanket out over my lawn, grab some iced tea, iced coffee or lemonade (whichever I have made), some knitting, and of course my cats. Plopped on the blanket I can easily scan my yard to keep an eye on my curious cats. They know that there are some baby bunnies living in the yard because they can see them from the window. I always seemed to get an extra kick of craft inspiration around Valentine's Day. What can I say? I am a hopeless romantic who also happens to like the colors pink and red. I decided to make some heart shaped bookmarks to give away as gifts.
From there, I decided that it would be fun to knit up some coasters to match my Valentine theme drinking mugs.

Fall is my favorite time of year. My martinis gain a bit more magic when drunk out of my witchy glass and my house is turned into all things Halloween. The same goes for my knitting and crafts. Every Fall there is a new magical shawl or scarf on the needles. Perhaps this is the year that I will actually complete one! Last night I took my first yarn dyeing class at my favorite indie craft store in Denver called "Fancy Tiger Crafts". This was not my first go around with yarn dyeing but it was the first time I have worked with acid dyes. We used two techniques, kettle dyeing and hand painting. In early March I was laid up with a vicious cold for about two weeks. It rendered me speechless (literally) for a few days and just miserable for much longer. I sat like a rock on the sofa all day, watching television and trying to concentrate on the subject at hand through my fogged out brain. Working on knitting projects for various charities is part of my crafting hobby. To save on costs I almost always use Red Heart yarn. I like the wide variety of colors they offer and the fact that the yarn is acrylic makes it a very good choice as well because most projects require the use of a machine washable yarn.
